Canterbury Renew's NorCal Sponsorship
For Immediate Release:
Canterbury of New Zealand is pleased to announce the renewal of the Rugby NorCal SRO (State Rugby Organization) sponsorship. As Canterbury continues to focus on the development of rugby in this country supporting youth development is an important and meaningful piece toward building a broader player and fan base. “The efforts that Mark Carney (Executive Director) and the Rugby NorCal organization continue to drive in our communities stands for what rugby is about, character and hard work. The Bay, Sacramento and Fresno areas are an important region for rugby with a great group of
dedicated players and parents who pledge a lot of hours and support to keeping youth programs strong and growing. Canterbury will support any opportunity we have to fund, grow and build quality programs for kids”, commented Robbie Flynn, General Manager of Canterbury North America.
As the region looks to expand its membership, Rugby NorCal is emphasizing expanding its base with additional resources funding a new Rookie Rugby League initiative in partnership with USA Rugby and Play Rugby USA. Rugby NorCal has also restructured its High School divisional structure, and has created a Premier Division, which provides weekly competition for the best Boys and Girls High School Clubs. Over the course of the next three years, Rugby NorCal hopes to expand its membership by an additional 25%, and continually improve the services offered to its membership.
“This is an extremely exciting time for us all here at Rugby NorCal”, said Mark Carney, Rugby NorCal Executive Director. “We have a lot of new initiatives focused on growth and development, the health and safety of our members, and recently hired a new Operations Manager that will actively work with our membership to ensure that no question is left unanswered.”
Being the largest State Rugby Organization (SRO) in the country, Rugby NorCal had a lot of potential suiters for an Official Supplier. “We decided to renew with Canterbury for a number of reasons, mainly the fact that they are a community oriented organization that sees and rewards the values and hard work put in at the grassroots level”, said Carney. “A big part of our agreement is the support that CCC will provide us for our Rookie Rugby Leagues Initiative in the form of the printed and equipment resources necessary for these leagues and teams to be set up for success from day one!”
