Canterbury Partners With Major League Ultimate
Major League Ultimate (MLU) announced today that Canterbury of New Zealand has been named the league’s official apparel provider.
The athletic and lifestyle clothing manufacturer will produce the 2015 on-field uniforms for all eight MLU teams, including jerseys, shorts and full warm-ups.
“The opportunity to work closely with a company of Canterbury’s lineage and reputation is incredibly exciting, and their commitment to building a segment of their business around ultimate is a great reflection on how far the sport has come in the last few years,” said Executive Vice President Nic Darling. “I look forward to working with Canterbury to build their presence in ultimate frisbee and can’t wait to see the product they have created for us on the field.”
With over 110 year of experience producing sports apparel for athletes of all levels, testing product on the rough and tumble rugby fields around the world, Canterbury has become renowned for producing the toughest, most durable sports product available.
Founded in New Zealand and now operated out of the United Kingdom under the management of the Pentland Group, Canterbury utilizes their heritage and expertise within rugby to challenge sporting boundaries and realize the latest technological advancements for on-field kits.
“We are thrilled to welcome the MLU to our list of prestigious global partners,” said Canterbury North American CEO Robbie Flynn. “Our partnership comes at an exciting time for the sport, giving us the platform to showcase our ability to produce high quality product for sports teams here in the United States. We look forward to seeing each of the teams wearing their new kit this season.”
The 2015 jersey designs will be unveiled later this month as each team finalizes jersey sponsorship negotiations. A range of official Canterbury branded supporters gear including replica jerseys will be available at the Game Day Shop and at MLUShop.com for the upcoming season.
In addition to supplying MLU players with newly designed uniform kits, Canterbury will provide ultimate teams at all levels the ability to create fully customized products through a completely revamped MLU Pro Gear Program. More details on the MLU PGP will be released later this month in a separate announcement.
“The expertise we have built within our core sport of rugby has allowed us to expand over the decades to other sports with the same ethos of producing only the highest quality products that are built not only for performance but for durability too,” said Flynn.
While this marks Canterbury’s first venture into the world of ultimate, the company is dedicated to bringing the same commitment to innovation and quality they provide national teams, professional teams, universities and clubs of various sports all over the world.
“I am extremely excited to be working with a brand where state of the art athletic apparel and the highest level of service isn’t just expected, but demanded,” said MLU Vice President of Business Development Jonathan MacQueen. “I have no doubt that our players and fans are going to love the new look of the MLU Jerseys.”
