The West Coast Sevens is one of the Men's College 7s fixtures on the calendar as teams prepare for the various National competitions. Setup by Andrew Doukas the event has become extremely popular - attracting quality squads from all over the country. Their goal is to provide a top venue for upper level collegiate 7′s Rugby teams while minimizing cost through corporate sponsorship. This tournament is about the College teams that participate and we strive to give the benefits to the Clubs that compete.
The 2014 West Coast Collegiate 7’s Tournament welcomes the partnership with Canterbury in this year’s National Qualifier. Three teams from Arizona are joining the lineup: ASU and new comers, Arizona Wildcats & Grand Canyon University. It’s been tough over the past three years for out of state clubs. The California powerhouses look to maintain their winning streak; Saint Mary’s are two time champions in 2011 & 2012, and UCLA’s had an impressive 24 to 19 victory over CAL last year.
Cal Poly, two time runner up, will be led by Max Tacket who was recently selected to the USA Hawks 7’s. UC Davis has high expectations with new head coach and former Eagle Mike Purcell and Santa Clara is coming off an impressive turnaround in 2013 under the direction of Paul Keeler.

UC Davis Looking for a Top Seed in 7's Collegiate Nationals
Update By – Seve Woods, President UC Davis Rugby
"We have hired a full time 7s coach named Tyler Harrison who played on the Davis squad when they were ranked 3rd in the nation. He now lives in Granite Bay and has been playing for various competitive men's clubs and looks forward to coaching our team.
We only lost one player; our captain Tony Oreglia, from last year’s squad but key seniors who have a tremendous work ethic on the pitch will be leading the team. Bryan Albin, Hunter Kepon, Dan Benjamin, Josh Campos, and Nate Oliveria will be key figures which the team will rely on.
We also have some new players who are looking to make an impact on the squad this year. Ian McCaffrey, Blake Hamilton, Drew Karson, and Christian Lonsky, all of whom have only a year of rugby experience, have picked up the game extremely fast and will all be contributors.
Our goal this year is to make it to the national playoffs and to achieve that goal we must play well at every tournament. With minimal 7s practices last year we were competing with the best of teams, now that we will have a full time 7s coach I believe this team will make an impact on the 7s circuit this year."
